ABOUT

Type of Race: A Self-Supported Endurance Challenge in which runners need to make their way from check point to check point across both trail, village roads and some asphalt sections along the 90k or 50k race route in which minimal support is provided in the form of drinking water, fruits and one meal station along the route (90k) as well as access to drop bags (90k) along the route.

Mandatory Kit for all Categories

Item 1 - Ability to carry up to 1 litre of drinking water

Item 4 - Trail Running Shoes (no road running shoes allowed from Start-WS2/Road Shoes optional for WS2-Finish for 90k/50k only)*
Item 5 - Electrolytes for duration of daylight hours runner expects to be on the race course
Item 6 - Whistle
Item 7 - Sufficient Energy Bars/Gels for the duration of the distance they are participating in
Item 8 - Headgear/Buff/Sun Protection for the head

Runners in 90k & 50k may pass the organizers 1 shoe bag with road running shoes and official FFUM bag tag attached at the START line which will be transported to WS2 if runners require this option. No plastic bags or bags without the Official FFUM bag tag will be accepted. 

Organizers will collect 1 finish bag from all 90k/50k/18k runners which will be transported to respective finish line with attached official FFUM bag tag. 
No finish bag service is available for 10k runners.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Avta Sports regrets to inform runners registered for Four Feather’s Ultra Marathon 2021, scheduled for 27th February 2021 that the event must be postponed in light of the change in situation with regards to Covid-19 in Sabah especially, to Saturday, 18th September 2021.
 
We have taken this step well in advance of the event date for a number of reasons.

1-The current trend of daily positive infection cases (average per day) in Sabah that we are seeing, especially with this new strain of Covid-19 means we simply cannot guarantee anyone they will be free from risk by participating in FFUM 2021 or that the borders will be open in February 2021 or what the situation will be like come early 2021.

At this juncture, we can only hope that the number of infections decreases down to single digits or to a “0” figure by mid-February 2021 as the current data projects do not show a considerable decline in infections rates and positive cases until early to mid-2021 if we were to look at the Covid-19 models being shared with us.

2-The new safety guidelines for event organizers has not as yet been announced or approved by the State and Federal government for the wellbeing of all concerned. This unfortunately also means no approvals or permits will be issued by either the Sports Commissioners Office nor the Police to organize the event as we traditionally do our applications and seek approvals at least 60 days before the event date but it is unlikely to happen in the current circumstances, even by early 2021.

3-The need to respect and ensure the wellbeing of our partners and all the people in the villages we would otherwise be passing through during the event where there is a high percentage of “large and extended families” living together under one roof, including both elderly and children; we risk the danger of an asymptomatic carrier(s) spreading Covid-19 and this would not be acceptable for anyone.

4-The problems we face with “asymptomatic carrier” not showing signs of illness or symptoms during the pre-race screening before the event or on the actual race day.

5-The low numbers of registrations as of 2nd November 2020 also suggests that runners are simply not prepared to commit to participating in any running events as economic realities and job losses for many within the running community means that it would be prudent to postpone the event to September 2021, allowing time for the Sabah borders to be formally opened and for international borders to open for travel.

6-To allow runners already registered for the event to make the necessary changes to flight itineraries and hotel bookings now rather than at the last minute. This also ensures that everyone can make adjustments now rather than later.

We sincerely apologize for this decision but it was something we had hoped to delay till December with the hope the number of infections would begin to decline in early November, meaning a single digit infection rate by December.

Unfortunately, with the current number of infections increasing and not declining, a decision was reached yesterday based on the situation in Sabah and the fact our borders remain closed and we ourselves are now in a designated "red zone" for the near future.

No changes will be made to the registration for runners except for a change in the event date. 

All runners have been sent an official email from us at 11.15pm, Wednesday, 4th November 2020 informing them of the postponement of the event to September 2021.

We thank you for your understanding of this unusual situation we find ourselves in due to Covid-19 and our office remains closed at least till the end of December 2020.
